Novell's SUSE is fast becoming the Linux distro that Microsoft would have built itself if it could bring itself to do such a thing. It is interesting that this new version of the new SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 (Mono Extension) lets Microsoft .Net components run on Linux without a recompile. Enterprises that would prefer to move to Linux are no longer are forced to keep their Windows boxes around just to run legacy Web apps. Mono Extension can even be run on IBM's System z mainframe -- which means the mainframe can now run .Net apps.
Will Silverlight get a boost from the desktop version of SLE 11 that lets Linux and Unix desktop users access Microsoft Silverlight rich media applications in Firefox by supporting the open source browser extension Moonlight? Hard to tell but it couldn't hurt.
