According to the recently released Mercury News Silicon Valley 150 (the annual ranking of the top companies in Silicon Valley), for the first time in 16 years (since 1993), Intel is not the second name in the rankings, Cisco has replaced Intel for second place:
The Mercury News states:
Cisco Systems replaces Intel in second place this year, 18 years after the networking giant first became a public company. It took Intel 21 years from its IPO to accomplish the same feat.
And what company did Intel knock out of second place 16 years ago? It was known then as Apple Computer and it rocketed to second place a mere five years after its IPO in 1980 to replace National Semiconductor in the No. 2 spot.
What caught my attention the most?
Although Hewlett-Packard is ranked first with sales that were $79 billion more than Cisco, its profit was just a mere $558 million more than Cisco's profit.
Furthermore, Cisco's stock market capitalization was valued $21 billion more than that of first place ranked Hewlett-Packard's stock market capitalization.
So it definitely appears that being ranked second place has its advantages, do you agree?

cisco is the big one
i am wonder why HP earn the 1th place? cisco technology is more advanced than HP who just build server same as each other and give them only different name (G1 , G2 , ... G^1000)rather than cisco who develop too many standards in networking that other wendor follow it(too many RFC ,...) .i am sure the next year cisco will beat HP.
