Steve Nye - the Vice President and General Manager of Cisco's Service Provider Network Management Business Unit is leaving his position and a headhunter has been hired to seek a replacement for Nye according to a Cisco source.
Earlier this year, Network World reported that Nye outsourced the U.S. jobs of 3 Cisco groups he managed to Tech Mahindra in India. Nye managed Cisco's service provider network management applications serving wireline, mobile wireless and cable providers.
I can't help but wonder if Steve Nye is the Cisco executive that according to a rumor by Greentech Media Editor Michael Kanellos, is set to join Silver Spring Networks - which is a major smart grid competitor of Cisco.

Another Exec Judy Lin is leaving Cisco
She only joined a year ago and is leaving for Silver Spring Networks
Cisco is a like a BANK with 500 VPs, and 9 to 5pm work hours
Judy Lin: Cisco SVP - Ethernet Switching Technology Group
Judy Lin - is the Senior Vice President of Cisco's Ethernet Switching Technology Group.
I spoke with Silver Spring Networks this afternoon and it could "neither confirm nor deny" that it has hired Judy Lin away from Cisco.
However, my gut feeling is that they have hired Lin because she makes better sense as a choice than Steve Nye.
Why?
Well for example, on May 18 the San Francisco Chronicle quoted Lin for Cisco, "If you think about what an electricity system is, it's a large network of components to distribute electricity but it hasn't had modern networking capabilities applied to it. We look at this as a market adjacency where we can adapt our existing products to make the grid more intelligent and capable."
Do you think the hiring of Judy Lin by Silver Spring Networks is a huge competitive blow to Cisco's smart grid initiative, or not?
Because after all, Lin's only been at Cisco for a year and has not been very visible (she's been hunkered way too far down in the switching trenches).
Cisco has not responded to multiple telephone and email requests for comment.
Once more Network World reader, thank you for the tip!
Sincerely and most gratefully yours,
Brad Reese

Steve Nye leaving
Must have been outsourced.
Perhaps Nye will be reassigned to outsource more Cisco jobs
Perhaps Nye will be reassigned to another "role" at Cisco in order to "outsource" more U.S. Cisco jobs to India.

He is the favorite to become Cisco's Chief Outsourcing Officer.

Steve Nye
Whatever made this country great is 100% antithetical to people like this.
Nye should have the same fate as those employees that he screwed over. It's just too bad that he doesn't have to go a few years without a paycheck, or, better yet, being told to change his skills so he's qualified to work on a garbage truck for $11.62 an hour.
Did you ever think....
Maybe he quit his job because he disagreed with Cisco's focus on outsourcing jobs; you're naive to think that an outsourcing action is carried out by a single person nor that he even agreed with it.
No confirmation
I've got no confirmation that Nye actually quit his job (it was just a rumor).
Nye might have taken another position at Cisco, which would appear to indicate that he has no problem with Cisco outsourcing jobs.
Sincerely,
Brad Reese on Cisco
