Mohammad Asgari, head of Iranian voting IT security, said to be dead in suspicious car crash after leaking true election results

Updated as of Thursday night

By CurtMonash on Thu, 06/18/09 - 12:45pm.

According to The Guardian:

The man who leaked the real election results from the Interior Ministry - the ones showing Ahmadinejad coming third - was killed in a suspicious car accident, according to unconfirmed reports, writes Saeed Kamali Dehghan in Tehran.

Mohammad Asgari, who was responsible for the security of the IT network in Iran's interior ministry, was killed yesterday in Tehran.

Asgari had reportedly leaked results that showed the elections were rigged by government use of new software to alter the votes from the provinces.

Asgari was said to have leaked information that showed Mousavi had won almost 19 million votes, and should therefore be president.

We will try to get more details later

However, I can't find more details of the supposed leak or of Asgari's death, even though the story has been picked up around the Web.

Edit: Robert Fisk of The Independent now corroborates that what Asgari supposedly revealed is indeed being widely circulated in Iran.

What can people in the US do to show support of the Iranians while our pres runs scared?

Since Obambi is running scared, I am supporting them by posting their tweets from twitter (the only media source available to them) onto the internet for distribution. I am promoting the rallies and boycotts of Seimans, Nokia and Brazil (whose Pres legitimized Achmadi by congratulating him while well-aware world Democratic leaders were holding off as a sign of solidarity...this caused a setback and Iranians died...no Blood Travel dollars to Rio!...Boycott Brazil)

Debbie, President Obama is

Debbie, President Obama is not running scared. He is doing precisely what he should be doing in regards to Iran: nothing. The US is a death touch when it comes to Iran and him doing anything more would allow the Supreme Leader to label Mousavi as an American puppet. Learn some facts before you spew your unjustified hate.

Are You Sure?

As the leader of the world's largest democracy, it would seem only fitting that the president could at the very least show some sign of support for democracy to win out in Iran. He doesn't have to strong-arm, pressure, sanction, whatever. He could just diplomatically show those who want what the U.S.A. has that they have a friend, and that their efforts are noted. Eastern Europe knew they had an ally in America under Reagan. How'd that end up?

Um guys please get you facts straight.

Debbie, our president is not "running scared", that's just neocon propaganda. Just because he's not a gunho cowboy like Bush that doesn't mean he's sitting idle. However this is a very delicate situation with a long intertwined back-story. Simplistic, knee-jerk responses might make for good TV, but they may cause more problems in the long-run. You advocate for rushing in and taking sides without really understanding all the variables. Try to remember that only fools rush in.

Ralphiewaldo, Eastern Europe freed itself during George HW Bush's term, not Reagan's term. So they knew they had a friend in Bush Senior, not Reagan.

And Obama is showing HUGE signs of support for Democracy in the region. What the heck do you think that big speech in Cairo was all about? And why do you think the mullahs in Iran reacted so negatively towards it? Because Obama robbed them of a convenient "Great Satan" bogeyman to dump all the blame on.

To answer your question Debbie...

This is a momentous time for every human being on earth. Ultimately, the success of a peaceful Iranian opposition will move oppression, injustice and war closer to obsolesence. Governments worldwide and the U.N. are out of position to actively help the free people of Iran. The Iranians don't need them anyhow - because PEOPLE worldwide are united with the people of Iran through the internet.

If you want to help:
-Sign up for a Twitter account and search the hashtag #iranelection for many more ideas how to help than I know of.
-Organize or attend one of hundreds of rallies planned world wide on Aug 25. (See rally plans on Twitter.)
-Donate $ or bandwidth in support of Haystack, a program that bypasses the internet blockade and helps people upload video evidence and news from inside Iran. Follow @Austinheap on twitter and/or go to this URL: HTTP://blog.austinheap.com/2009/07/06/how-you-can-help-iran-20-haystack/

Why this could help:
Tyrants must pay attention to worldwide protest because: (1)they would see that the world still knows what's going on inside an imprisoned country despite failed internet blockade and shameful lack of coverage by the media elite,(2)the protests imply impending worldwide public support for removing the regime from power by mutiny, pusch, revolution, or emerging benevolent opportunistic forces, and(3) foreign goverments and businesses cannot negotiate as meaningful agreements or contracts with a regime at higher risk of overthrow!
