If you had to choose?

Survey shows far too many far too attached to their mobile phones

By Paul McNamara on Wed, 07/01/09 - 3:52pm.

Four times I've read this sentence from a press release and it makes no more sense the fourth time than the first: "If caught in the rain with a choice of a mobile phone or an umbrella, nearly 37 percent of Americans would choose their mobile phone."

Why? They would place it atop their heads as with a rain hat? Seems woefully unsuited to the task. They would use it to call a cab? One might drown before that works. Or, maybe they're going to check the forecast, see exactly when this downpour will subside.

Me? I'm taking the umbrella and asking you if I might borrow your phone.

The umbrella vs. phone question is but one imaginary dilemma posed to some 1,000 adults by a polling firm hired by Best Buy Mobile. In addition, the survey found: 60 percent would give up booze for a week before their mobile phone; a third would part with television first; and 15% would opt for the dentist before going without you know what.

You can decide whether those numbers seem high or low.

What would I give up for my mobile phone.

I might, just might, give up a trip to the dentist but then I have a go-phone and it still has minutes on it.

Cell phone addiction is BAD

I frankly could give up my cell phone with no problem. My teen age Daughter however is Strongly addicted . with over 4 thousand Tex messages a month and endless calls `she sleeps , watches TV and brings her phone to the Bathroom with her and has been in TWO car accidents while driving and looking at her Cell phone .It's an Addiction . Shes not alone , I see it all the time with the number of Girls on the phone while Driving `4 to one as to Men. It's Nuts.

iPhones are the New Starbucks

I think iPhones are the new Starbucks. People paying a lot of money for the phones, the plans, and then for the silly APPS, most of which are simply the equivalent of $5 lattes at Starbucks. In a few months, people are going to wakeup and see the expense of what they have been wasting their money on (maybe about the time they have to cancel their iPhone contracts and file for bankruptcy because they couldn't afford the expense of the iPhones) and realize that this is Starbucks all over again.

You can have mine

Wow, as far as I am concerned you can have my phone.
I would rather pull teeth from a lion without anesthesia than carry my phone around with me.
But hey, I like my privacy.
