What business is Cisco in today?

The Global CIO open letter to Cisco CEO John Chambers appears a bit naive to me.

This week in an open letter to Cisco CEO John Chambers, Global CIO Senior VP and Director - Bob Evans asked the oversimplified question:

What business is Cisco in today?

According to Evans:

"Tell the CIO world what business Cisco is in today. It's a story they want to hear."

Remarkably, it took Evans 3 long pages to get to that statement, which appears a bit naive to me.

Why?

Well in my opinion, Cisco has been very clear about what business it's in today:

Cisco is in the business of moving into a whole lot of market adjacencies.

But don't take my word for it, take Cisco CEO John Chambers' word for it at approximately the 1:14 time mark in the video below:
