Last month I noticed that a CCIE amnesty program was being promoted all over the Internet:
Google search results for:
Scanning the Google search results, I found no direct links to Cisco that would provide further information about the CCIE amnesty program.
So I contacted Cisco directly to learn more about the program and received the following official Cisco response from Cara Sloman (Cara works closely with Terry Alberstein - Cisco's PR Czar who handles the most "delicate" PR issues for Cisco):
"Hi Brad, there is no CCIE Amnesty program in place. The post referred to is not representative of Cisco policy."

Amnesty Program
Funny how you get folks telling you whatever you want to hear or you make it up entirely. I have seen the email string and approvals from Cisco. Now tell us you are doing something good for the CCIE community and we can all have a laugh!
Response from Cisco about a CCIE amnesty program
As I said in the blog above, I found no links to Cisco web pages and no information on the Cisco website in regard to the subject of a CCIE amnesty program.
So on Friday, July 24th, I emailed the following Cisco Public Relations Executives seeking further information on the CCIE amnesty program:
Terry Alberstein
Terry Anderson
David McCulloch
Cara Sloman
After a week of trading emails back and forth with Cisco, this afternoon at 2:21PM EST I received the following email message from Cara Sloman at Cisco (Sloman works closely with Terry Alberstein on "delicate" Cisco PR issues):
There is no CCIE Amnesty program in place. The post referred to is not representative of Cisco policy.
Thanks,
Cara

Gold Partners are to blame
I remember Larry writing about how Cisco Gold Partners use CCIE just to keep the certification then lay them off after the gold audit. Also he wrote about how Cisco does nothing about it and it is common practice, Cisco Gold Partners even post on GURU.com to get certifications for the audit. Larry also wrote about that in a blog, but Cisco was very absent to respond to the blog.
Cisco only comments when it helps with PR, they will never comment on something like certifications being sold on job sites. I worked for a major partners for allot of years, it was very common practice to just hire people fr certifications, keep them for 6 months and let them go.
Cisco should publicly announce that they found CCIE's selling certification to companies they don't work for and also remove all companies who just hire to keep Gold Certifications.
Maybe is Cisco did a better job in the Gold Audits they could have fixed this issue.
Rent A Cert
Almost 2 years ago I blogged about the practice of Renting Certifications:
Rent A Cert, a good or bad idea for Cisco partners and cert holders?
I thought Lang Tibbils - PR Manager Corporate Communications for Cisco did a pretty good job of addressing the issue at that time.

Is their a list of gold partners who do that?
Is their a list of gold partners who lay off after the audit? I'm amazed Cisco doesn't shut them down.

I believe you ........
Upstaged
It's tough being upstaged by someone doing real good for the CCIE community huh Brad?
Next-door neighbor kid
Even the next-door neighbor kid upstages me all the time, so yes, I'm quite comfortable being upstaged.
