A ride with Microsoft

Changing of the guard

By John Fontana on Wed, 08/05/09 - 11:45pm.

This past weekend my son and I watched the just released documentary “A Ride with George Hincapie,” which follows the American cycling legend on a training ride as he pedals to the top of Caesars Head State Park in South Carolina (a ride I’ve also done).

The filmmaker rides in a car alongside Hincapie shouting out questions such as “What’s your biggest regret?” “Do you have any fears?” “Have you ever cried?” “What’s the most selfish thing you have ever done?” After watching the film, it struck me as a metaphor for this blog; riding alongside the fast moving Microsoft throwing out questions and looking for answers.

I’ve covered the software giant for more than a decade now and you likely know my byline from our news pages or my face from any number of conferences. Even after the past decade, I still have lots of questions, but I also need additional ones thrown out by you on topics such as servers, clients, clouds, SharePoint, Exchange, Outlook, SQL Server, OCS, open source or anything else Microsoft touches, touts, taunts or tries to tame.

Hopefully our ride will be informative; will highlight the good, bad and ugly; solve the mysteries; examine the pratfalls; peer down into potholes; and look up at the accomplishments. Please, come along for the ride as I add this blog to my coverage of Microsoft.
