On November 16, 2009, I will deliver a pre-conference workshop at KMWorld 2009 in San Jose, CA where I will review best practices for creating meaningful information architectures for SharePoint solutions.  The workshop will include some fun exercises and I promise to try to de-mystify the process of creating a successful IA for your SharePoint sites.  To encourage you to join me there, InfoToday has provided a link to a $200 discount for the conference.  The discount is automatically calculated on this webform.

If you look at the list of pre-conference workshops, you'll probably notice that there are several workshops that appear to focus on this very same topic so I guess either the organizers are completely confused about the topics of information architecture and taxonomies or they just want multiple perspectives.  One of the workshops is even going to be led by someone who used to work for me and, unfortunately, his workshop is at the same time as mine. It's either good or bad that attendees will have to make a choice.  (If you come to my session, then good for me, bad for the other presenters!) On the second day of the conference itself (November 18), I'll be participating in a panel discussion with three other speakers called SharePoint Strategies, Tactics, and Tips.  While the focus of KMWorld is knowledge management in general, there will be a lot of sessions on SharePoint.

KM World has long been one of the best places to learn critical information and best practices about all topics related to knowledge management from some of the world's leading experts.  I've met some incredible people, learned a lot, and made connections that have literally changed the course of my career all because of products I saw or people I met at this conference over the past 10+ years.  I realize that especially now, we all need to make even more careful choices about the "extra" events in which we participate outside of our daily work.  If your role has anything to do with knowledge management, collaboration, portals, social computing, or any of the other topics in this space, I think this is truly the place to be.  And, with a $200 discount, it's even better!  As an extra bonus, the KMWorld Conference also has an exhibit hall that is open to pre-registered attendees for free!  Your colleagues can register for this free pass at the same URL for the discount.

I look forward to seeing you in San Jose!

If you are looking for an event that is specifically focused on SharePoint and can't wait until November, then I would also recommend that you check out Ensuring SharePoint Success, a unique, one-off event where my friend Ruven Gotz, along with Dux Sy, Paul Culmsee, and Andrew Woodward, will lead a workshop that is a combination of a conference, mentoring, coaching, workshop, consulting, and training all rolled in to one!  The event will be in Reston, VA from August 19-21, 2009 so you'll need to get moving if you want to attend!
