Microsoft released nine patches, five labeled critical, as part of its Patch Tuesday monthly release cycle. Of the nine patches, only one does not affect Windows. That patch fixes holes in Office, Visual Studio, ISA Server and BizTalk Server. The nine bulletins in total address 19 vulnerabilities, of which 15 are critical.

Says Eric Schultz, CTO of Shavlik Technologies, "The bulletins cover a gamut of affected products - almost everything in your enterprise will need to be patched today with the exception of Internet Explorer. No IE patches this month!

"The majority of bulletin releases these days relate to client-side vulnerabilities – visit an evil website, open an evil document, or read an evil email and you’ll get hacked. These vulns are of greatest concern on the desktop where end users are filling time between Mafia Wars power-ups and Facebook updates by visiting websites that may be hosting content of questionable repute. This month, there are 5 bulletins addressing these types of issues."

ChangeBASE ran the nine patches; five rated Critical and the other four rated as Important by Microsoft, through our AOK Application Compatibility Lab to test for any application compatibility issues.

After loading the ChangeBASE AOK application testing portfolio into the AOK Patch Impact database, the nine patches were tested for application level issues and in addition; application dependencies. For these nine Microsoft Security updates, only the Microsoft Office updates (MS09-043 and 039) raised a minor number of issues against the ChangeBASE AOK test application portfolio. All other updates did not raise any other patch impact related issues.
