Windows WINS attacks coming from China

Researchers have found the source of recent attacks on Windows Server service.

Yesterday, John Fontana reported that the vulnerability in the WINS service on Windows server was being exploited, and now researchers have found that the attacks are coming from China, despite some troubles with the undersea cables linking China to other parts of the world.

No surprise here. The only thing that surprises me is that companies have not taken the steps needed to be ready, such as level 7 application firewalls.

Actually, what amazes me more, is that the US has not placed firewalls and IPS's at all Internet entry points where Internet Links coming from other countries to the Internet here in the US. That way, it breaks not only foreign cyber attacks trying to hit US interests, but also prevents attacks originating in the US from all the worms we have crawling the Internet here, to other countries. Sort of securing the edges of the US Internet, like we are trying to secure our boarders (but with more efficiency and a lot less man-power required!)...

I am appalled that with all the attempted and successful security threats that manufacturers and extra national services endure that there is only a reactive element in response. Is it an unwillingness to truly spend the money or is it that companies, like little children, can do it themselves?
