By Mitchell Ashley on Tue, 09/01/09 - 9:06am.

I love gadgets, smartphones among them. The best part of today's mobile phones are all the cool apps. Here is my list of the smartphone apps that I can't live without. Have you got a favorite not on this list? Drop me comment or a tweet (@mitchellashley) and I'll check it out.

To quickly flip through this list, with screenshots of each app, check out the slideshow version of this article: 15 SmartPhone apps you shouldn't live without

TweetDeck

How will you keep up with all the tweets from your peeps while you’re mobile? TweetDeck. Watch all of your lists; tweets from all friends, favorites, groups you define, Twitter searches, your mentions, and direct messages with this very handy Twitter client app. TweetDeck also tells you how many Twitter API calls are remaining (so you don’t get caught without being able to Twitter until they reset.) Multiple Twitter accounts are also supported. If you like TweetDeck on your phone, you’ll also enjoy the desktop version which runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Other Twitter client apps receiving honorable mentions are Twitterific, Tweed, TweetGenius, and Pocketwit.

I thought this discussion was over and everyone knows that iPhone is not a smartphone. Why it is the focus of this article is beyond my comprehension!

But everybody's doing it...

FYI - ComputerWorld also refers to the iPhone as a smartphone (see http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9137776/Apple_refreshes_iPod_line_up_cuts_prices_retools_iTunes). Guess it's not over yet.

Wow. a whole 3 apps that work on something else apart from an Idrone.

I have to agree with S6. A phone that cannot do true multi tasking is a feature phone. The defenition of a feature phone is inability to do one one thing at a time.
