Half of iPhone owners would drop AT&T like a bad habit

New survey results show predictable love for iPhone and loathing of AT&T

By Paul McNamara on Wed, 09/30/09 - 7:55am.

We knew already of the widespread dissatisfaction with AT&T among iPhone owners, of course, but there's something to be said for attaching reliable numbers to conventional wisdom.

According to a CFI Group Smartphone Satisfaction Study released this morning:

50 percent of iPhone customers would like to switch providers;

40 percent of iPhone users switched providers just to get the iPhone in the first place;

Satisfaction with AT&T is lower among those who were forced to switch than it is among those who did not have to switch (64 vs. 72 on the CFI scale).

iPhone customers are less satisfied with AT&T than are the carrier's other smartphone users (69 vs. 73).

Meanwhile, the iPhone remains more popular than cold beer at a picnic.

Garmin

I might stick around, but without the iPhone. The Garmin Nuviphone looks intriguing. I just might keep AT&T and drop Apple.

I wouldn't buy from AT&T if

I wouldn't buy from AT&T if there were no other providers.

They have overbilled 6 people I know and their service is subpar.

Really?

0

They overbilled 6 whole people? Wow, call CNN.

If you'd read the comment,

If you'd read the comment, you might've interpreted it correctly. AT&T overbilled 6 people that THEY KNOW. Consider how many people that you *really* know, and figure out what percentage of that equals 6. For most, that's probably a sizable chunk. Now, multiply that by the number of iPhone users.

Now you get it.

Now go play in traffic.

More bars in more places?

This may be true but it is NOT 3G bars, Sprint and Verizons 3G/4G network is far superior to AT&T's. I would certianly drop AT&T if the iPhone were on a Sprint or Verizon. AT&T's service is much like Verizon's Blackberry commercial "paperweight mode".

Would switch in a second

I ended up getting Sprint's MiFi to go along with my iPhone, AT&T's coverage is THAT bad in my area (no 3G at all). Fortunately, work is paying for it. I would love to see the iPhone on a different carrier.

AT&Trash

Oddly enough, Cingular was fine before AT&T came into the picture.
As soon as that happened, my phone became a brick.
How is this company even in this business?

Company mergers

Just like Nextel was the best of the best around here until they picked up Sprint.. then dropped calls and static that never happened before. I liked direct connect but can live without it for better call quality.

AT&T

I think most people would drop AT&T completly (DSL, PHONE, CELL), if they had an option. Something is wrong there, very wrong.

You're Right!

0

You're exactly right. I did drop everything AT&T. For a long time I had both a home phone line and DSL through AT&T. Once I started using my cell (Tmobile) for all my calls, I ditched the home line. And once Clear came on the scene, I got rid of my DSL. I'm AT&T-free!
