One of our favorite notebooks got an upgrade and a price break – nice.
Toshiba this week introduced the Qosmio G35-AV600, the latest version of its "four-in-one" notebook (PC, digital video recorder and integrated TV tuner, stereo system and DVD player) with new features and a $2,399 price tag (down $600 from previous models).
The notebook features a 17-inch widescreen display (1,440 by 900 resolution), has an nVidia GeForce Go 7300 graphics card (with 256MB of memory) and the QosmioEngine, Toshiba technology that "enhances digital images for crystal-clear images and bright colors," the company says.
New features on the G35-AV600 include a 1-bit digital amplifier, Dolby Home Theater support, Bass Reflex Speaker technology from harman/kardon, and Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology processors (dual 1.83 GHz). In addition, the notebook includes a customizable touch pad that provides "one-tap" shortcuts to launch e-mail, a browser or other programs. A fingerprint scanner for additional security has also been added, Toshiba says.
The 10.1-pound notebook has two 80GB hard drives (for a total of 160GB), which users can use in a RAID configuration (to create two redundant drives if they want to), 1GB of RAM, and a fixed DVD SuperMulti Double Layer optical drive. The new model continues the use of the QosmioPlayer, which lets users watch TV, DVDs or listen to a CD by touching a button without booting up Windows.
Other features include a 5-in-1 media card adapter, integrated 802.11a/b/g wireless LAN connections, Bluetooth (version 2.0 plus Enhanced Data rate), four USB 2.0 ports, TV out port (S-Video and component via a D-connector cable), A/V In port (S-Video and connector as well as composite/monitor/line in), Ethernet Lan port, RJ-11 modem port, iLink (IEEE 1394) and S/PDIF optical audio output port.
The notebook is now available at the ToshibaDirect Web site and other consumer electronics and computer stores across the U.S.
