Some of Fortune's 'rising stars' have already risen

There needs to be a statute of limitations on this sort of thing.

Google founders Page and BrinMy longtime friend and former colleague Chris Nerney makes a couple of interesting points -- loathe though I am to acknowledge the fact -- in his filleting of Fortune's "40 under 40" list that the magazine labels: "Business's hottest rising stars."

(2010's 25 Geekiest 25th Anniversaries)

The first point from his post at WebNewser: Even if they have yet to suffer their 40th birthdays, how can Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin squeeze into any definition of "rising stars" given that they already control a multi-zillion-dollar company poised on the precipice of total world domination? Same goes for Marc Andreessen, who if I'm not mistaken invented the cathode ray tube.

Here's Nerney's second point:

A digressive complaint: Just once, couldn't the creators of these lists separate Brin and Page? It's not like they're Siamese twins, though apparently they still share an office. Plus, in a realistic world, isn't one at least slightly more hot/smart/important/cool than the other? Google workers, feel free to use our anonymous tip line to choose the more valuable co-founder, or post a comment below.

Fortune lists both Brin and Page as being the business world's No. 1 hottest rising star, although, it must be noted that Brin's name appears first. (Hey, Larry, you gonna take that?)

And now I have my own question for Fortune: What in the name of Sam Snead is Tiger Woods doing on this list?
