Not long after Apple announced the most profitable quarter in company history, Apple unveiled a slew of new hardware on Tuesday.

Chief among Apple's many announcements were newly unveiled iMacs with larger screens.  The new iMacs come in 21.5-inch and 27-inch flavors, and replace the old models which featured 20-inch and 24-inch screens.  Now, if you've ever actually used a 24-inchiMac , you can attest to the fact that the screen real estate is huge, and I can only imagine what the 27-inch display will look like perched up on top of a desk.

Spec wise, the base model iMacs sport 3.06Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processors with some impressive displays to boot.  The 21.5 inch iMac features a screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution and the 24 inch model features a screen with a 2560 x 1440 display.  Apple notes that the new 27-inchiMac screen features more than 60% more pixels than the old 24-inch model.

Also included with Apple's new iMacs are a wireless keyboard and a newly designed wireless multi-touch mouse which connects via Bluetooth.  A wireless keyboard and mouse used to be premium upgrades when purchasing an iMac, but they now come standard.

But back to the new mouse, which Apple is calling the "Magic Mouse."  Gone are the days of the sticky scroll ball that was often associated with the now defunct "Mighty Mouse", and in its place is a new mouse with touch controls.  Apple's new Magic Mouse allows users to swipe up and down to navigate through awebpage , much like how it works on the iPhone.  But the Magic Mouse also allows users to right click (as did the Mighty Mouse) in addition to allowing users to initiate 2 finger swipes which moves a web browser backwards or forwards.

Notably missing from the new Magic Mouse, however, is the ability to launch both Expose and the Dashboard, 2 features which actually worked quite well with the sometimes problematic Mighty Mouse.  I realize that Apple is always working on cooking up something new and doing away with the old, but getting rid of Expose and Dashboard functionality from the mouse seems like an obvious step backwards.

In any event, the new iMacs appear to be pretty solid deals, with the base 24-inch model selling for $1099 while the 24-inch model starts at $1999.
