Prior to TechEd Europe this coming week, a number of third party vendors have made announcements. One of these is F5, who on November 3 announced its new F5 Management Pack Solution for OpsMgr 2007, allowing customers using F5 and Microsoft to dynamically manage application delivery in virtual environments, particularly when using Hyper-V and System Center Virtual Machine Manager.

F5 has added Performance and Resource Optimization (PRO) capabilities to its F5 management pack, previously introduced in April 2009.

PRO is a feature of System Center when you integrate Operations Manager 2007 and Virtual Machine Manager 2008. PRO is new, native Microsoft technology that enables dynamic management of virtualized infrastructure. This is an attempt by Microsoft to foster an industry protocol for automatic issue resolution of events arising from virtual environments - enabling cloud computing with hints of artificial intelligence. PRO leverages the management pack infrastructure of OpsMgr and the virtualization abstraction model used by VMM to create a real-time analysis and decision-making tool. Optionally, you can place optimization recommendations (PRO tips) in a 'full automatic' mode.

PRO features exist in the VMM management pack, focusing on CPU utilization and available memory on hosts and VMs. PRO-enabled management packs also exist from third party vendors such as Dell, Emulex, and Secure Vantage; and now F5.
