Telepresence Comes of Age

telepresence

By Johna Till Johnson on Mon, 11/23/09 - 10:30am.

Half of companies are deploying or planning to evaluating telepresence. Typical deployments are limited; only a handful of rooms located in large office locations. But with the mean price of a room deployment hovering around $250,000, plus on-going costs for bandwidth and management, how can organizations justify such an expense, especially in light of shrinking or flat IT budgets? The answer is simply that executives perceive a great deal of value in meeting via telepresence versus room-based, desktop, or audio conferences. Telepresence, unlike other meeting technologies is perceived as suitable replacement for in-person meetings, especially for senior executives.

Those deploying telepresence almost universally sing its praises, with most reporting high utilization, high user satisfaction, and a strong demand to expand telepresence facilities to additional locations and to extend telepresence sessions beyond corporate boundaries.

About Masters of Unified Communication - old

Johna leads the Nemertes team of analysts, who regularly benchmark organizational, technology, and business trends of all sizes of businesses.

The unique methodology includes detailed, structured conversations between Nemertes analysts and IT practitioners. Analysts use that research data, combined with real-world experience and knowledge, to advise SMBs and enterprise organizations on their IT strategies with targeted service offerings specifically for each segment.

Finally, Johna and her team have spoken at hundreds of events where they interact with IT practitioners from all sizes of companies. These conversations also provide perspective on the unique challenges facing SMBs, as well as those facing enterprises.
