The worldwide market for network security appliances and software grew 7% between the second and third quarters to $1.26 billion, according to Infonetics Research.
Cisco remains the leader with 35% of the market. It gained a point of share from Q2, Infonetics found, Cisco's first sequential gain in three quarters.
Juniper overtook Check Point for No. 2 thanks to a 20% increase in revenue. Cisco grew 8% in Q3.
Worldwide SSL VPN gateway revenue increased 13.5% sequentially in Q3 while IDS/IPS product revenue grew 11.7%, Infonetics found. The firm noted healthy spending by governments -- particularly in the US and Asia -- service providers, and organizations upgrading security to meet regulatory and compliance rules.
