AxCrypt: Open Source tool for encrypting files

AxCrypt takes a more granular approach to file encryption

By Ron Barrett on Thu, 01/21/10 - 7:37pm.

The ability to encrypt the entire hard drive for your CEO, CFO,etc. etc...is a great technology.
But, while the ability to encrypt an entire disk has its advantages, there are times when you only need to encrypt certain files.
For instance bit-locker or other such tools would not be necessary for most users. As an IT Director I never had any real reason to encrypt my entire hard drive. But there definitely times I have needed to encrypt files.

Thanks to a tool I just heard about called AxCrypt. Not only can you encrypt only the files you want, but you can do so in a cost effective way. You see AxCrypt is an open source software. Not only is it open source it is real easy to use.

AxCrypt integrates into the right-click menu in Windows, so encrypting a file is as simple as right clicking and choosing a single file to encrypt.

Some other great features include:

Editing of encrypted documents by simply double-clicking the file
Command line interface
Integration with Web-based file sharing services
128-bit AES encryption
Server mode options
Support for files up to 4GB

To name a few, but best of all is that AxCrypt require zero configuration. If you need to send files to a client simply let them install the software email them the encrypted file and then let them right-click and choose decrypt...it is effortless.

Download AxCrypt today and check out this cool little tool that has a lot of power!
