OK, all of you freaks who went ga-ga over the Microsoft Origami hype a few weeks ago – your chance to actually get your hands on one of them starts in about six days.
Samsung Electronics said today that its Q1 Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) will be available at this Best Buy Web site beginning May 7 (a blank page shows up now). The device will show up in "select Best Buy stores later this summer" as part of a collaboration between Best Buy and Samsung (I doubt it will end up in the Framingham, Mass., store - but who knows?). The Q1 will retail for $1,099 in the U.S., Samsung says.
The 1.7-pound Q1 device runs Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and includes a 7-inch LCD with touch-screen capabilities, Samsung says. Bluetooth and wireless LAN (and also wired) connections will come standard with the device, and Samsung's AVS feature will let users watch movies, view photos or listen to music without having to boot up Windows.
The device is the result of a collaboration between Samsung, Microsoft and Intel. Optional accessories will include a USB keyboard, an organizer, extended battery and external optical disc drive.
