The worldwide service provider router market reversed sales declines in four of the five previous quarters by posting its highest sequential growth rate in more than two years in the fourth quarter of 2009, according to Dell'Oro Group. Sales increased 15% to $2 billion, Dell'Oro found.
Market leader Cisco grew revenue 11% in the quarter. Runner up Juniper jumped 17% as did No. 3 Alcatel-Lucent. Closing out the top five were Huawei at 22%, and Ericsson at 39%.
Dell'Oro notes that customers started spending again in Q4, which bodes well for 2010. The firm expects service providers to begin new and continue existing network projects and buildouts this year, which would stimulate market growth.
