Nortel looks into the future of wireless with University of Waterloo

By Alpha Doggs on Tue, 06/13/06 - 7:56pm.

Notel is co-sponsoring a Research Chair at the University of Waterloo in Ontario to focus on 3G and 4G wireless technologies. The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is the other partner in the research project.

Heading up the project is Amir Khandani, professor of electrical and computer engineering at the university.

According to Nortel, "4G will take wireless technology even further, achieving speeds comparable to wireline broadband and allowing for such sophisticated uses as wireless sensors to monitor and manage everything from traffic stress on a bridge, to air pollutants, to personalized environment settings in the home."

The telecoms equipment companys says it has investments in some 50 projects with 20 universities.
