Cisco best positioned for business tablet computing?

Cius could hit latest wave of corporate thin clients, post asserts

If tablet computing takes off in the enterprise, is Cisco best positioned to capitalize on it? That's the assertion posed by Motley Fool in this piece entitled "The Titan of Tablets: Apple or Cisco?"

In it, Fool notes that, on the heels of the Apple iPhone's success in the corporate world, iPhone service provider AT&T notes an uptick in interest for business tablet computing as well. Tablets like the Apple iPad can be used for very specific, slimmed down computing tasks that do not require the heavy processing of weightier business applications and databases, Fool notes.

That's why Cisco's introduction of the Cius, which is specifically tailored for business tablet computing, might turn out to be a winner - and another market transition identified by the company. Cius is optimized for and includes business unified communications and collaboration tools, and TelePresence virtual conferencing. And with virtualization software making business applications portable without the requisite processing horsepower, Cius, iPad and other tablets could take off as thin clients in the corporate enterprise.

Indeed, Fool goes so far as to say that Cisco wants Cius to replace the corporate PC:

Cisco's aim is to be much more than a business tablet -- it wants to replace your PC. Ultimately, the company wants to use virtualization software to make the Cius a "thin client," a window into the same PC environment business users ultimately demand. If AT&T's statements illustrate businesses opening up to the idea of tablets, Cisco could be the best positioned to strike at the market.

That's a big if. Are enterprises ready to ditch the corporate PC in favor of a tablet? From a non-PC vendor? Running Google Android, a non-Microsoft operating system?
