StreamServe gets vertical with document presentment

By lmusthaler on Fri, 07/21/06 - 9:35am.

I first told you about StreamServe’s “enterprise document presentment” technology last October. StreamServe provides the linkage between your back office and front office applications. For instance, in order to send a customer invoice, you might need to bring together data from multiple sources. “Connectors” draw the data from the individual sources into the StreamServe engine and assemble it into a meaningful format. From there it can be sent to the customer via printed document, email, fax, or whatever distribution method you choose.

When I say the data is assembled into a meaningful format, I mean that the resulting documents can be highly customized and personalized. For example, in the case of my monthly invoice from Chrysler Credit Corporation, I have a nice reminder from the company telling me that my car is now five years old, and that perhaps it’s time to trade it in for the latest model in that product line. There are pictures of the gleaming new 2007 versions of my car, enticing me to have a closer look at the offer.

If you want to see how StreamServe can improve the look of documents, take a look at some of these “before” and “after” images. I’m sure that customers would appreciate the clear and concise format of the revamped documents.

The big news coming from StreamServe lately is that the company has added a vertical emphasis to its solutions. The company has invested heavily in domain expertise in the following areas: financial, retail, utilities, manufacturing, insurance, telecom, and post and print. StreamServe has built out specific templates for each vertical as a starting point for companies that want to improve the way they present their documents.

In my recent briefing from StreamServe, the company pointed out another area where their technology has been very helpful: after two companies merge. It’s not uncommon for two merged companies to continue to present data as silos for a while, perhaps for up to a year as the companies struggle to integrate IT systems. StreamServe can help the newly merged companies look like a single entity to the customer through document presentment. The data connectors can tie back to the separate data sources coming out of each of the two old companies. The StreamServe engine assembles the data and then presents it with the look and feel of the new company. This puts a single brand in front of the customer, which is important after any merger.
