It doesn't require virtualization to isolate services. People have been doing "loadable modules" for 30 years. Cisco's software is a good 25 years behind the times.

To some degree Enterasys
To some degree Enterasys NSeries DFE products already do this distributing enabled processes across the fabric to all modules in the chassis. Super redundant and really scaleable.
Cisco's IOS set for radical pricing, feature changes
Excellent strategy!
Kudos to Cliff Meltzer for finally leading Cisco in the right SW model direction.
What happens to support for existing bundled modules
The new strategy is great news, albeit a few years late in my opinion. My organization is considering the purchase of 50+ 5350's for the sole purpose using the imbedded VXML interpreter functionality within IOS. Now I’m wondering what if any affect Cisco's change in strategy will have on future IOS upgrades and support. Will Cisco remove these niche applications from the standard IOS version and sell them as add-on features?
Modular IOS production ready, or wait another year?
Hi,
I'm about to deploy a couple of 6513's in an Enterprise data centre and was wondering if anyone has had any Production experience with Cisco’s new modular IOS. Should I wait another year before jumping onto the bandwagon? Or is it truly production ready & stable? I’d appreciate any experienced base information or web/blog links to sites that provide feedback from the trenches.
Any tips/advice would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!
