Cisco's total number of job listings plummeted 93% in the last week, according to Aaran Rakers, an analyst at Wachovia Capital Markets who tracks job listings at the networking giant. As reported by Tech Trader Daily, Rakers says that Cisco advertised 1,830 openings a week ago and today it is listing just 128 jobs.

Cisco increased its equity stake in VMware to the tune of $13.3 million. The 500 shares of VMware Class A common stock are being purchased from Intel, and will help to increase Cisco's equity share of VMware to 1.7%. Would Cisco CEO Chambers be McCain's choice for U.S. Treasury Secretary?

Cisco CEO John Chambers was the first name mentioned by John McCain when questioned in an interview regarding potential Treasury Secretaries in a new administration, blogs Brad Reese. Additionally, Cisco is among a group of Silicon Valley tech companies urging passage by the U.S. House of Representatives of the $700 billion Wall Street Bailout, reports The San Jose Mercury News. Based on the U.S. Senate Bailout proposal, as Treasury Secretary,Chambers would rule the business world with $700 billion of U.S. taxpayer money to spend at his direction. Chambers has been a longtime McCain supporter. The Presidential-hopeful in February 2007 selected Chambers to serve as the national co-chair and economic and technology adviser of his presidential exploratory committee. Chambers previously served on the education committee of President Bush's transition team and an advisory council on the nation's infrastructure.

Creeped out by Cisco's hologram telepresence

Today, we bring you a little insight into the job of security/identity management engineer from a reader that performs this role for one of the nation's major "transportation" companies. We promised not to reveal the company, but can say it is in a highly regulated area of transportation due to the cargo it carries. Q: So, Edgar, tell us, what's your favorite thing about your job?

A: Every day I get to play "Cops and Robbers" with technology. Scanning our network devices and servers, making sure that malware, bots, viruses and all that is potentially dangerous to our environments stay out and not penetrate our network.

Q: In what ways do you work with Cisco technology?

A: I've got a rack at home with several routers and I'm working on labs for my CCNA exam. I configure and blow up the configs, try different things like password recovery, which came in handy when I forgot what I put in TWICE. I'd say it was a good exercise :-)

Q: If you were the Special Advisor to John Chambers and could make him do anything you wanted with the company, what would you have him do?

Cisco: TelePresence will do for Cisco what iPhone did for Apple

Cisco's $300,000 TelePresence setup will do for Cisco what the iPhone did for Apple - boost the company's sales. Cisco CEO John Chambers made the comment at the company's analyst meeting today, reports Bloomberg, which cites Cisco Senior VP Marthin De Beer as saying that Cisco could reap annual TP sales worth $1 billion by the second half of 2009. Chambers also reiterated that Cisco will meet its target of 12% to 17% annual revenue growth over the next few years. Cisco has predicted a sales increase of 8% this period and 8.5% the next, according to the news service. Cisco said it has 200 TelePresence customers and has orders for 1,000 more systems.

Cisco also claims that each week it is selling 50 of its biggest core-router, the CRS-1.

Cisco buying VMware rumor just won't go away

It seems the Cisco + EMC/VMware rumors just won't go away. Barron's is reporting that stock-market site theflyonthewall.com is writing that a 3.1% increase in VMware shares today to $38.12 reflects speculation that Cisco is to up its stake in the virtualization company. Cisco owns 6.9% of VMware's Class A shares, or about 1.5% of the company, reports Barron's. EMC owns 84% of VMware.

In June, Cisco CEO John Chambers dismissed speculation that Cisco would make a run at either EMC or VMware.
