NW's new 802.1n stress test

The behavior of 802.11n networking gear is the focus of our latests Network World Clear Choice Tests, a major achievement by David Newman. Using VeriWave's WLAN testing platform, Newman subjected 8 access points from each of four WLAN vendors to a large-scale, public, stress test designed to show their behavior and performance under varying loads.

If Cisco wants to compete with the likes of HP, IBM, Sun & Dell in the Data Centre/Enterprise market then this would be a good opportunity to get their foot in the door.

Watch out Cisco: Here comes the Entersys/Siemens combo

Financial pundit Sean Udall may think networking is now a two-horse race between Juniper and Cisco, but a rejuvenated Enterasys is hoping to get a piece of the action. It is being combined with Siemens' Enterprise Communications group to create a $5 billion firm with more than 1 million customers, 15,000 employees and a presence in 80 countries, writes Network World's Jim Duffy.

Siemens OpenScape for sale?

There has been a rumor prevalent over the UCStrategies UC Summit since the first evening keynote. Mark Straton, an exec from Siemens, let slip that the OpenScape UC division might be sold and subtly hinted that Nortel might be the prospective buyer. There's more info and a full video of the keynote from my take on the event and John Furrier's opinion.

New Twist on Open Source Telephony

This week is JavaOne 2007 in San Francisco. As you may know Java has been round for 13 years since it was renamed from Oak to Java (good thing too). This year's conference has been just as impressive. The emphasis this year as been on mobility which obviously means communications and communications applications.
In a twist Siemens and Sun have announced an open source partnership where by Siemens will provide Sun with telecommunications software:
