merger

If HP is wise, it will use this opportunity to leverage the excellent workers of EDS and rid EDS of the absolutely awful mid management team. This team is notorious amongst the employees for lack of integrity and self focus. This will be an excellent merger if these absolutely souless managers are exited asap before they can infect the HP employees. Dont look at rigged employee surveys, just ask the employees and the customers what they think of EDS management. Your jaw will drop.

What are the next moves

With merger between HP and EDS, now is the expectation on the movement of other giant of this sector, Dell Computer

After any years loosing for it's competitors, the market pressure to get back the market share may take Dell to an important movement on this market

Follow IBM and HP looks obvious, but not probable. The sevice Market may become expensive and by consultings as Tata or Accenture may not be feasible.

With merger with EDS, HP open the possibility to Dell foccus on Hardware.

The options could be:

Acer --> Put Dell immediatlly on first position in market share, with more than 25% of the market and reinforce the Dell's retail strategy. The synergy between Dell and Acer could be a good reason for this merger.

Does HP keep IBM up at night?

It's no secret that HP and IBM continue to race neck-and-neck toward being the world's largest technology vendor. And HP couldn't be more open about its intention to knock IBM out of any top spot it may hold with acquisitions such as the pending $13.9 billion EDS buy.

Why 1984 won't be like 1984 for HP/EDS

Electronic Data Systems is giving the process a go again, this time being acquired by HP. I lived through the General Motors acquisition of EDS back in the 80's as a Systems Engineer at EDS. The EDS back then was a much different EDS than exists today. Most notability, EDS was still Ross Perot's company through and through back then. When GM bought EDS, everyone at EDS from Ross Perot on down, believed that EDS was buying GM - at least as running IT goes. We were there to "fix" GM and show them how it was supposed to be done. GM was our largest customer, and Ross believed he was on a mission to show GM how the rest of the company should be run like he ran EDS. What bravado and arrogance we had back then.

EDS-HP merger a good thing for HP Software

EDS is currently a large CA account, but this deal will make it more probable that HP software will - at least partially - replace CA in some ITSM areas. This will bring HP Software even further to the forefront of the HP product business, and I see it as a good thing.

I'm not very objective here, though, since my company is the leading HP Software partner in the Nordic countries.

Ullal departure sign of Cisco transformation

The departure of Jayshree Ullal this week is another indicator of Cisco's transformation from a networking company in to an IT company, according to one analyst. The recent exodus of top executives from Cisco - Ullal follows Chief Development Officer Charlie Giancarlo and Senior Vice President Mike Volpi out the door, both of whom were considered potential successors to CEO John Chambers -- is due to a number of obvious factors: hitting the career ceiling, cashing out on a flat stock price, and professional inertia among them. But a less apparent cause may be a philosophical change within the company itself.

HP targets Big Blue with EDS buy

HP today announced it plans to acquire EDS for close to $14 billion, or $25 per share of EDS stock -- a deal which has some industry watchers speculating if HP has what it takes to handle large-scale acquisitions with finesse and knock IBM out of the top spot in the global IT services market.
