Microsoft announced earlier this week another 800 employee layoffs to the 5,000 previously announced employee layoffs.
RIM Still Hasn't Recovered From The Blackberry Storm

The Blackberry Bold is getting good attention but the mobile SmartPhone world has become a two horse race between the Apple iPhone and the Motorola/Google Droid. Even with the new Blackberry Storm 2 model, the Storm missed its window to be a serious contender against the iPhone (despite all my ill advised pro-Storm predictions). Read more

Which floating contents bar???

I have tried viewing this page on Firefox, Chrome and IE, and I don't see any list of products in a floating contents bar. Where can I find the reviews? Why is it so hard to put a link within the body of the article? (Which would be the more logical place to put it anyway.) Why have an article talking about the Best e-book readers, which offers the suggestion that it will tell you further information, but actually, doesn't and instead refers you to another article, which doesn't actually appear? I have had this problem before with Network World, and it is frustrating.

Citel Portico TVA Bridges VoIP Transition

There are few products on the VoIP marketplace that aim to solve a major problem: Completing the difficult transition from TDM (or legacy) telephony to Voice Over IP. After spending a few months with the Portico TVA from Citel, I'm convinced that the TVA is one of those essential products.

With the continued economic uncertainty, companies and organizations need cost effective methods to continue...

Cost Cutting Efforts Masquerading As Environmental Concern

This reminds me of the placards that hotels have been putting in rooms for years: "If you're staying multiple days, re-using your towels will help save the environment." Well, maybe. I'm sure that the hotel would like to save a buck or two on laundry.

User Support Is The Key To New Microsoft Store

Now that Microsoft's first Apple-like store is open in Scottsdale Arizona, Microsoft has finally entered the world of direct consumer retail sales. Since I don't live in that part of the country I have to rely on the reports from others, and so far the feedback is that the store is a lot like Apple's, has a little less cool-vibe to it, and shows off some of the price differences between hardware running...

For our last installment in the Windows Server 2008 R2 security changes and updates, we have a slew of new features in the Identity and Authentication areas.
Windows Server 2008 R2: Security Changes and Additions Part II

Another great set of changes and additions to Windows Server 2008 R2 security comes in the Authorization and Access Control areas. Some of the biggest (and most welcome) changes are to User Account Control (UAC)

User Account Control (UAC)

why pay so much?

Wow that seems like a lot of money for photo scanning. I just had tons of photos scanned at www.NickelScan.com and they came out great. They only charged 5 cents per photo. They included a free automatic enhancement on a completely separate copy of the original scans, and included scanning the backs for free. My photos were back in a week. What a great deal!

Verizon and Google Droid Phone Take Run At iPhone

After the debacle called the Blackberry Storm, you have to wonder if Verizon is really ready to take another run at the iPhone. From one viewpoint the Google Android powered Droid phone must a very capable contender, given how the recent Droid video ads pick at iPhone weak points. Hard to say the Droid will dethrone the iPhone, but it certainly has the potential of keeping Verizon customers tempted...

Net Neutrality - Somebody Get John McCain A VoIP Clue Phone

Net Neutrality vs. John McCain. Consumer vs. Ignorant Politician. Party affiliations aside, anyone proposing we allow carriers to clamp down and determine what content we can run through our Internet and ISP connections probably still has their secretaries print out emails for them. Would you allow Verizon or AT&T to determine who you can make calls to on their wireless networks? No. It's a ridiculous...
