Virus attacks highest ever in July, Google says

With two Gmail outages in as many weeks, perhaps it's time that Google turned its attention to e-mail security, specifically e-mail viruses. The company posted notes on both the Google Online Security Blog and on Google's Enterprise Blog saying that this July was hands-down the worst for virus attacks and noted that on July 24 alone, Google's Postini servers encountered nearly 10 million virus-laden messages.

RE: Google unbundles Postini security services

How about a story on how this SCREWS Postini's channel resellers, by offering online "basic" Postini filtering for 1/10th of the former retail price & even the "regular" product (inbound\outbound\custom filtering\spooling) for LESS than the current COST to resellers ($12 vs. $15).

RE: Why did Google acquire Postini?

I think there are two main reasons that explain why Google has acquired Postini:

- Archiving as a way to get large clients on Google Apps when they face legal requirements (SOX...). I have already seen many requests in this field.

- A set of clients using Exchange or IBM Lotus Notes to whom it will be easier to propose a move to Google Apps.

I don't think Google will acquire an email company which has an offering for Intranet. Two reasons :
- Outside of Notes and Exchange, no vendor has a significant market share.

- This will go against the main strategy of Google, offering SaaS solutions which run on its ultra efficent infrastructures.

Of course, I may be wrong! Time will tell.
