Check out the latest Brad Reese on Cisco blog post where he discusses an intriguing program offered by Tech Pros Group which is advertising paid internships for Cisco and Microsoft LAN/WAN engineers. Brad writes: "In my opinion it appears too good to be true, and an immediate red flag was raised in my viewpoint upon discovery that a $95 application fee is required to apply."

Cisco skills/jobs shortage? Bah!

Interesting discussion in this recent chat with Cisco Subnet blogger Brad Reese. Reese explains again why he thinks Cisco is not on the up-and-up over its so-called job and skills shortage. If the IT industry is convinced that the world is hard-up for more Cisco professionals it can recruit for its certifications programs like mad.

Even more importantly, Reese says that the best way to boost your career is to focus on (and only on) the technology that excites you and let the money find you. It will, he say, it will.

Cisco's skill shortage math doesn't add up

If you haven't seen it already, there's an interesting discussion going on at the Brad Reese on Cisco blog questioning whether Cisco is suffering from the skills shortage it says it is - a shortage that it hopes to alleviate by bringing in H-1Bs. Cisco, which has 1,504 U.S. job openings wants to fill many of the vacancies with new hires from far away lands. But a during a presentation at this week's Partner Summit, Celia Harper Guerra, Cisco director of Worldwide Partner Talent said Cisco is showered with 20,000 resumes a month (i.e., 240,000 a year).

The past 7 days on Cisco Subnet: Cisco confirms its gear caused iPhone problems, plus more Cisco chatter

On the eve of its annual Networkers lovefest Cisco confirmed that a "Cisco-based network issue" caused iPhones to flood Duke University's wireless LAN. Cisco failed to provide any other details or issue general fixes as of late Friday, leaving other organizations worried that they too will face similar problems.

On Friday, Network World published a story in which chief Cisco salesman Robert Lloyd acknowledged a slowdown in enterprise sales in the United States. The story also details cisco's challenges ahead as it tries to find new revenue in untested waters.
