Why HP ProCurve is dismantling Cisco's market share on a deal-by-deal basis

I spoke on the phone today with the Vice President and General Manager of HP ProCurve - Karl Soderlund, and learned why HP ProCurve is dismantling Cisco's market share on a deal-by-deal basis, for instance:

If you trade-in your Cisco equipment, HP ProCurve will take 20% off its list price.

By doing so, I feel that HP ProCurve is whacking Cisco in its most vulnerable spot, its lack of pricing...

The iPhone 3GS-for-Speedy isn't quite as speedy as we thought.

In a succinct, informative Macworld article, Glenn Fleishman explains why.Simply put: for pulling down data, the 3GS can use AT&T's newer HSDPA service, at 7.2 Mbps. The corresponding upstream service is HSUPA, at either 1.4 or 1.9 Mbps. AT&T is building out this higher speed network. Read more

Apple + AT&T= Advantage Apple

Apple cut the deal with AT&T because they get a piece of the cell contract. There's additional revenue for Apple despite the crumby services and lack of customer choice. Apple is in business to cultivate sales and customer loyalty. I think they've proven to be very successful on both accounts. AT&T, not so much. But, then again, monopolies really don't have to try very hard.

A Wireless Keyboard That Works

As you know from my previous misadventures with Apple's wireless keyboard and mouse (which, BTW, seem to be fixed now), I am a big fan of these wireless peripherals - but, let's face it, they don't always work all that well. Wireless input is usually the most desirable alternative, whether in a home entertainment/HTPC environment, a regular office setting (no wires to get in the way of everything you...

If there was any doubt Microsoft and Google were out to eat each other's lunch, both companies have proved they're going after the other's core business; desktop OS+apps and search, respectively.
The death of battery life

Most people believe battery life for their laptop and mobile devices is always and every time just plain less than what they want, or that they deserve.
For example, Apple’s recent suggestion that iPhone 3GS users can improve battery life by turning off features was not well received by users. An LA Times reporter dubbed the battery in the new phone “iDrain.” Read more

Context-Aware Applications - The Future Is Ready To Happen
