Unlike 2008, rooms were not quite as cold (or maybe I just dressed warmer). And the announcements weren't quite as momentous - but after all - how do you compete with last year's flying pigs? (although the cross-plat folks did bring along a supply for giveaways)
Seriously ... This year instead of being at MMS on a press pass, I was a presenter. As such, since I presented on Wednesday, Monday and Tuesday were pretty much spent with last minute details in preparation for that.

Microsoft releases OpsMgr 2007 management pack for WS2008
Submitted by Microsoft Subnet on Mon, 07/28/08 - 2:45pm.System Center OpsMgr 2007 users now have access to a new management pack from Microsoft that makes it easier to discover and diagnose problems with WS2008 in the Application Servers role. The pack sifts through WS2008 event logs to zero in on and coordinate between events for the Application Server role. The pack includes monitors, rules, views, tasks, knowledge, and reports. Microsoft says that the management pack will help uncover events that indicate configuration problems or could otherwise lead to an outage. Read more

The Operations Manager 2007 Authoring Console
Submitted by Kerrie Meyler on Sat, 10/06/07 - 11:19pm.If you're familiar with MOM 2005, you know that management packs were distributed in a binary format with an extension of AKM, and could not be edited outside a Management Group (e.g., you could only change them within MOM). This changes with Operations Manager (OpsMgr) 2007, where management packs are written in XML. Sealed management packs have an extension of MP, while unsealed management packs have a file extension of XML (but we'll talk more about that in another article). You can create management packs outside of OpsMgr using XML and an XML editor, or you can use Microsoft's Operations Manager 2007 Authoring Console, which is now in public beta.
