 <title>Cisco, Nivis demo 6LoWPAN sensor network</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;Cisco and Nivis this week demonstrated an operational wireless IP mesh network using the low-power IPv6 protocol, dubbed 6LoWPAN. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Using Nivis wireless sensors and routers, the demonstration network linked a parking meter with several streetlights, a sensor ring in a parking space, and what was described as a Cisco cell phone. The arrangement was used to communicate to the driver that a parking space was available, and in another instance that the meter had expired.  <description> If your organization isn&amp;#39;t using IPv6, or any applications that demand it, you may find that your Longhorn boxes are using a bit more network bandwidth than necessary. In fact, the inventor of DNS, Paul Mockapetris, made some fairly strong statements about this effect shortly after Vista debuted. While many observers felt that his criticisms were exaggerated, the guy invented DNS, for Pete&amp;#39;s sake, so there&amp;#39;s probably some truth in what he says. &lt;p&gt;Turning IPv6 off isn&amp;#39;t as easy as it should be. I was very disappointed that out of the approximately 450 exhibitors on the conference floor, there was only one company that even used the term &quot;IPv6&quot; on the posted exhibitor-list online.  When walking around the booths, talking with both hardware and software companies, I was even more amazed at the unknowing responses I received.  While I could only sample a percentage of the total exhibitors, a clear trend was coming to light during my discussions.

 <description>Regardless of how good you get at content filtering, the fundamental problem remains that you can&#039;t predict and deter the freshest iterations of spam content ahead of time, without risking some false positives.

For this reason, it&#039;s essential to also use a layer of IP-based filtering and connection management to get rid of connections from suspicious sources.

In an IPv4 world, reputation filtering has a 2^32 address space to conquer. That&#039;s a lot of IP addresses, but not untenable.

 <description>I just hope this goes one step further in promoting IPv6 which is taking an inordinately long time to get moving. No-one should be allowed to make money from something they got for free at a time when no one realised there was going to be an address space issue.</description>

 <description>I think you have it backwards. IPv4 band-aids don&#039;t cause IPv6 delays. Its the substantial resistance to IPv6 that causes IPv4 band-aids.</description>
