Delving into Skype
By Adam Gaffin, NetworkWorld.com, 01/11/05
Mark O'Neill noticed some unusual outbound TCP connections from his PC and went to investigate. He discovered some interesting facets of Skype - the peer-to-peer IP telephony app he's installed. Basically, Skype's figured out how to improve overall voice quality for many users by appealing to the desire of individual users for better service - but that the whole thing would collapse if everybody used NAT firewalls.
