CarPC

By Adam Gaffin, NetworkWorld.com, 01/18/05

When Apple announced the Mac Mini, some people noted it had similar dimensions to a car stereo and wondered how long before somebody might just install a CarMac.

They could take lessons from the Windows crowd - which already has figured out how to power juice-sucking CPUs from puny in-car DC systems, like, oh, this guy, who chronicled his installation of an in-dash 2.4-GHz Microsoft Media Center box in his Ford Expedition:

My CarPC layout will include a 7" widescreen LCD touchscreen monitor in the dash (VGA, not composite or svideo), DVD/CD burner in the glove box, 9-in-1 card reader with USB and 1394 ports in the glovebox, 802.11g wireless networking, bluetooth, IR remote, 200G HD for lots of storage space, TV/Radio tuner. The PC and power supply will be in the back in the sub box I built.

Do we want to know about system crashes?
