Criminals continue to find new ways to use technology. First we had reports of Italian mobsters using wireless phones to help rig elections. Now comes a report about how criminals in Rio de Janeiro are using mobile phones to organize pickpocketing raids.
According to the report, an adult uses stolen mobile phones to organize gangs of young kids to "swarm' unsuspecting tourists coming out of hotels: "If a law enforcement officer sees the crime and catches a child, the child can only talk about (the teen leader). The mobile phone is not traceable. If the police catch (the teen), he can only provide a mobile phone number."
