Network World Fusion 08/12/03

We've just put up a spam calculator that lets you plug in various assumptions (for example, your average employee salary and estimated percent of mail that is spam) to find out how much spam is costing your enterprise. It's based on some work by Mark Gibbs.

It's still sort of a Ver. 0.9 calculator. For example, Mark suggests the need for a printer-friendly version that includes more details on the assumptions embedded in the algorithms and which you can drop into a report to, say, your CEO on why you need to do something NOW about the problem. What would also be way cool would be to translate the calculator from Java to JavaScript so you can see the results change instantly as you change your assumptions, rather than hitting a button to see the new numbers.

Let me know what you think! Oh, and as long as you're at it, let me know if there are other calculators we could build. We've got this one and our salary calculator, so I'm starting to get good at throwing algorithms together!
