Mixed feelings out there on the news that Microsoft is looking to incorporate anti-virus technology into the next Windows XP service pack.
Joat wonders if he's been transported to an alternate dimension:
"Is it me or is MS suddenly working with us (hybrid network users/admins/managers) rather than around/over/through/in spite of us?"
But Dana Epp says:
"Personally I would have rather seen Microsoft partner with the antivirus and firewall vendors and capitalize on those companies' expertise, rather than acquiring the technology and folding it into their business as 'yet another product'. Focus what you are good at, and let other businesses focus on their core competencies. Everyone could make more money... and we would have vastly superior products out there."
Mike McBride seems to agree:
"...[I]s it going to be like the firewall or zip utility that's built in to XP now, where they aren't as good as other products on the market? And is that going to force out the better products?"
Back to CompendiumI hate Windows, and XP is the worst yet. I can't wait until every one stops using Windows altogether. My office has constant problems with it, and then to have anti-virus software too.. I already know its going to be full of problems.
