Anil John says he runs his Windows XP Pro machine as a non-Administrator:

"... In developing as a non-administrator, I have encountered errors that I would not have encountered if I was running with admin privileges. I believe that this in turn has made the systems and software that I build much more secure. ..."

Anil may be the smartest developer I've ever heard of. As a network admin, one of the banes of my existence is applications that don't work without at least Power User rights. I can't tell you how many thousands of man-hours my colleagues and I have all wasted trying to find the right directory/file/registry key to modify access to in hopes of avoiding giving Power User rights, and half the time we have to do it anyway. THis results in many more thousands of hours worth of cleaning up after starfish who've put junk on (or even wrecked) their PCs because I had to give them more access.

Microsoft themselves are one of the worst offenders!
