The ITU Strategy and Policy Unit Newslog discusses the growth of Chinese Internet use, pointing to a Business Week article that predicts that by 2006, there will be more Chinese than American Internet users.
"While sheer size is the obvious reason for China's growing Net influence, the policies of the Chinese government are just as important. Beijing is determined to turn China into a high-tech force that can rival the U.S., Japan, and others in innovation."
Ah, but what of the Great Firewall of China? Sure, it's a bit porous, but one wonders how successful China will be as an innovator without the true free flow of ideas that has marked previous technological revolutions.
