Earlier this week, the BBC had an interesting story about a wireless network in Nepal that is helping remote yak farmers - some of whom are a two-day walk from the nearest village. The brainchild of a local teacher, the network, built on donated second-hand equipment, lets the farmers keep in touch with their families, buy and sell yaks and get veterinary consultations:
"They can send message via e-mail and also they can do it through NetMeeting video conferencing software, so they can also talk."
