This is what happens when a store allows returns but Customer Service doesn't check inside the box before letting it go through.

What happens is that a scam artist buys a boxed item, replaces the item with something like a brick (or a bag of dirt), and then goes back and asks for the 100% refund.

I've heard stories of customers buying an expensive top-of-the-line videocard in a retail box, only to find out that some creep had replaced it with an old, obsolete videocard.
