SecurityMonkey writes:

I recently volunteered to fix a friend's PC that was giving her fits. It was running Windows XP Home, and had a copy of Norton Antivirus running with a current signature file. Windows Update was current (except SP2 - apparently some of her critical apps weren't compatible).Cool. I thought - she had done everything right. This shouldn't be bad, eh?

BZZZZZT. Wrong.

Famous last words.<:-)) Most home computers and many small office computers tend to be a hodgpodge of apps. New apps, old legacy apps, stuff no longer used, stuff with conflicts, and just plain *stuff* for lack of a better, more socially acceptable term.

OTOH corporate systems even when they consist of Networked PCs tend to be consistent, controlled, and predictable. Some one took the time to make sure everything worked and these are *usually* far easier and safer to upgrade. Even my small home network with 4 machines (two of which are used for programming) upgraded to SP-2 without a hitch.
