Web bug

A small graphic (typically 1x1 pixels) embedded on a Web page to provide user tracking information to a Web site or advertising company, by dropping a cookie on the user's hard drive. Also known as a Web beacon. Network World Fusion currently uses two Web bugs per page to collect aggregate visit information (i.e., we don't track specific users across the site).
