From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:10.4.5 404 Not FoundThe server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent. If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address. |

 What's a DocFinder? DocFinder is a system for finding articles referenced in the print edition of Network World. Each week, articles with additional online material will get a unique ID number. Instead of navigating through menus to get to the article you want online, just type its ID number in the DocFinder box, hit enter or click on the "Get!" button, and the article will pop up. DocFinder will prove especially useful if you're looking for a referenced article that may have run a few weeks earlier. You can find articles older than that in our Network World Archive, which is a database of all Network World articles (including news stories, reviews, buyer's guides and columns) going back three years.
