Nortel announced Monday that William Conner, president of the company's eBusiness Solutions group, has left Nortel to become president and CEO of security software vendor Entrust Technologies.

Conner's duties will be assumed by Joseph Davis, president of commercial markets for eBusiness Solutions, Nortel says.

Nortel recently announced a 12 cent-per-share loss for its first quarter of fiscal 2001, and 5,000 more job cuts. Nortel will axe 20,000 positions by mid-year.

Also, Nortel named Anil Khatod to the newly created position of chief marketing and strategy officer. Khatod was previously president of Nortel's Global Internet Solutions group and held management positions in the company's Optical, Personal and Wireless Internet businesses, including a stint as president of Nortel's Optical Internet business.

Khatod will report to Nortel President and CEO John Roth, and will be responsible for the company's business and technology strategies, strategic planning, investments, alliances, and global marketing and communications.
