Verizon this week unveiled a security service for small and midsized businesses.

Verizon Business Internet Security Services monitors customers' networks seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Customer support and automatic updates on security threats are also provided.

The first two Internet security products Verizon is offering are Premises Firewall and Virtual Private Network Services. Monthly prices start at $130 for Premises Firewall, with a $206 setup fee and two-year commitment for a system that covers one to five devices.

One-year contracts are also available, and installation charges apply based on the number of devices.

Virtual Private Network includes the same hardware and security features as Verizon Premises Firewall. The products use encryption to create secure connections.

Verizon VPN prices start at $172 per month for a two-year contract. One-year contracts are also available, and installation charges apply based on the number of devices.

Both services provide Web-based monthly summary reports that identify the time and origin of any attacks.

Verizon plans to add desktop software-based firewall and anti-virus products to its Business Internet Security Services offerings later this month.
