Smartphone 7135
It's unclear when this device will officially be available (it wasn't when we wrote this, but we had an early model), so keep checking the stores or the Web. Kyocera was saying that it would be available by year-end.
This is Kyocera Wireless' third-generation smart phone, and it doesn't disappoint. The company has learned its lessons along the way, and has made a "converged device" that offers something for everyone a PDA, a cell phone, color screen, Web access, MP3 player, and others. The 7135 is small enough to carry around like a cell phone (you can also hold it up to your ear without too much strain).
We tested on a high-speed wireless data network (CDMA 1xRTT), but it was unclear which provider would be carrying the phone. Still, this is Kyocera's best effort yet on merging the world of data and PDAs with the world of the cell phone. If you want to "just carry one device," this is certainly one to look at.
One thing that concerned us with our unit was battery drain, we thought we drained the battery when the phone was off, but the PDA remained powered. If we had several days of inactivity, we found that the battery had drained.
